Nirbhaya Kanya Yojana

The Nirbhaya Kanya Yojana Initiative was successfully organized by Poona Institute of Management Sciences and Entrepreneurship in collaboration with the Board of Students Development, Savitribai Phule Pune University on 24th February, 2025. The event aimed at empowering young women by equipping them with essential knowledge on self-defense, legal rights and healthcare awareness. It witnessed an overwhelming participation of students who gained valuable insights from distinguished experts in their respective fields.

The session commenced with a powerful self-defense training conducted by Ms. Namrata Mundada, a Certified Self-Defense Instructor and Martial Arts Expert. She demonstrated practical techniques and strategies to enhance situational awareness, personal safety, and defense against threats. Her session was engaging and interactive, leaving students inspired and confident about their ability to protect themselves in real-world scenarios.

Following this, Dr. Jacinta Bastian, an Associate Professor and a renowned expert in Constitutional Law, International Law, and Human Rights delivered an insightful talk on women’s legal rights and protection laws. With 18 years of academic experience, she highlighted critical legal provisions safeguarding women, empowering students with the knowledge to assert their rights and seek justice when needed. Her session was thought-provoking and emphasized the importance of legal awareness in today’s society.

The final session was led by Dr. Saummyata Bora, a medical professional and founder of the NGO "Chiraaaiyaa." She shed light on the importance of women’s health and hygiene. Her inspiring journey of balancing medicine and social work resonated deeply with students motivating them to contribute toward social change.

The event concluded on a high note leaving students empowered and aware of their personal safety, legal rights and health awareness. It was conducted under the able guidance of our Director, Dr. Porinita Banerjee and was efficiently coordinated by Mr. Zafar Ahmed Khan. The event was a resounding success, reinforcing the institute’s commitment to holistic education and women’s empowerment.
